Did you get a chance to read our last blog yet? If you did, then you already know that there are many steps that you should take before you get pregnant. To recap, we talked about how you should visit your OBGYN in Venice for a preconception checkup and you should stop taking your birth control, but those aren’t the only steps you should take! Here are a couple more things that you should do before you start trying to get pregnant:
- Cut back on your caffeine- Let’s face it, we very much live in a Starbucks nation, and many of us are addicted to caffeine. Though most doctors condone a small amount of caffeine when you are expecting, you should know that too much of it can trigger a miscarriage. The other big consideration is the caffeine withdrawl you are likely to face. Wouldn’t you rather deal with the withdrawl symptoms now, rather than when you are already dealing with morning sickness?
- Quit smoking- The fact that you shouldn’t smoke while you are pregnant is pretty obvious, but not many people know that smoking can have consequences before you are even expecting. Smoking can put you at a higher risk for birth defects, preterm labor, miscarriage, and more. Smoking can also affect your ability to get pregnant. In fact, studies have shown that approximately 13% of fertility problems are due to the use of tobacco.
Though the above steps are incredibly important, we aren’t done yet! Learn about more steps you should take before getting pregnant by staying tuned for our next blog!
