Menopause is a natural part of life, but getting through it can be a challenge.

If you have had a chance to read our last blog, then you already know that our OBGYN in Venice talked about the three stages of menopause and explained what happens in each. It is always good to understand why our bodies do what they do, but it doesn’t necessarily make going through menopause any easier. There are many physical and emotional changes you will have to go through during menopause, but luckily, there are many things you can do to ease your worst symptoms. The following is our list of tips to help you cope with menopause:

#1. Know your triggers.

Hot flashes are often triggered by specific things, like alcohol, caffeine or stress. Once you narrow down what your triggers are, you can avoid them more often. When a hot flash does occur, practice taking deep, slow breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. If your hot flashes are intense, talk to your doctor!

#2. Make sleep a priority.

Getting a good night’s sleep isn’t always easy during menopause, which is why you really need to focus on sleep. Exercise during the day, avoid using bright screens at night and make yourself stick to a regular sleep schedule.

#3. Fight back against night sweats.

Hot flashes can be especially frustrating when you are trying to sleep. Keep cool by wearing light comfortable pajamas and using layers of light blankets to sleep with. It is also a good idea to keep a fan close to your bed.
