#4. Drink Tea
Many women have turned to herbal teas, such as raspberry tea or cramp bark tea, to relieve their menstrual cramps. While scientific research on the subject is scarce, there is a lot of anecdotal evidence about how certain teas ease cramps.
#5. Heating Pad
Applying a heating pad to your lower abdomen is a great way to fight off the cramps. One study from Evidence Based Nursing even found that using heat topically is just as effective for relieving cramps as taking ibuprofen!
#6. Light Exercise
The last thing that you probably want to do is head to the gym when you have cramps, but a little bit of exercise can really help you find relief. Try a light yoga class or go for an easy jog to ease your cramps. Exercise works because it releases endorphins in the body, and those endorphins help to minimize pain.
#7. Minimize Caffeine
It is a well-known fact that caffeine, particularly from coffee, actually restricts the blood vessels. If you read our blog about what causes cramps, then you already know that this restriction of the blood vessels reduces the flow of oxygen to the uterus and causes cramping in the first place. Try cutting down on or cutting out coffee to reduce your cramps.
