In our last blog, we talked about a couple of the steps that you should take before you get pregnant. We talked about how you should cut back on the caffeine and stop smoking, but there are many more things that you should do before you try to get pregnant. The following is a list from our Sarasota obstetrics clinic of the rest of the steps that you should take before you are expecting:
- Don’t drink as much- This step is especially important if you drink heavily. If you only drink a glass of wine on your Friday nights out with your friends, then you are probably okay. However, if you like to indulge a little more, then it is a good idea to start cutting back now. Too much drinking can affect your fertility, and it can even affect your husband’s sperm count, so it is a good idea to ask him to cut back as well.
- Start getting healthy- If you start a regular exercise regimen now, you are much more likely to stay active during your pregnancy. This will make it much easier for you to get your body back after you’ve given birth. If you are overweight, losing a few pounds could even make it easier for you to get pregnant. Just keep in mind that you don’t want to lose an unhealthy amount of weight, because that could affect your fertility.
- Get plenty of sleep- You will want to get as much sleep as you can now, because once you are pregnant, it can be hard to come by. Some studies have even shown that if you don’t get enough sleep, it could mess with ovulation.
