We all know that exercise is a part of healthy lifestyle, but will too much or too little exercise affect your ability to conceive?

Unfortunately, the answer isn’t a straightforward yes or no because there are many factors that you will need to consider. Your weight and your current fitness level are two of the main things to consider when it comes to whether or not exercise (or a lack of exercise) will affect your ability to get pregnant. For instance, carrying around too much weight can hinder your ability to ovulate, but too much exercise can also affect ovulation.

Can obese or overweight women get pregnant?

While it’s true that being overweight or obese can affect ovulation, you’ll be glad to know that losing just 5-10% of your overall body weight substantially increases your chance of ovulation. For women who are obese or overweight, starting a healthy exercise routine may just be the fertility solution you’ve been looking for.

Can women who over-exercise get pregnant?

Not only can too little exercise damage your ability to ovulate, so can too much exercise. Women who put their bodies under extreme stress during exercise regularly can stop ovulating altogether. When you put your body under too much physical stress, it creates a disconnect between the brain and the ovaries, which prevents ovulation. However, if you do train hard and you have regular periods, then you are probably ovulating regularly. On the other hand, if you aren’t getting your periods regularly, you may need to decrease the intensity of your workouts if you are trying to conceive.
