We all experience irregular periods every once in awhile.
Have you had a chance to read our Bradenton OBGYN’s latest blog yet? If you have, then you already know how to recognize an abnormal or irregular period. Although abnormal periods can be a sign of an underlying medical issue, in most cases, they aren’t risky or dangerous. If you have noticed a change in your period, then your first step should be to try to figure out what is causing it. The following is a list of common reasons for abnormal or irregular periods:
Stress is actually the most common reason why women experience irregular periods. This is because the stress hormone, Cortisol, actually has a direct connection to how much progesterone and estrogen your body produces. An increased amount of cortisol in your bloodstream could affect both the flow and time of your cycle.
If you have started to hit the gym hard lately, then you should know that it can have an impact on your menstrual cycle. Your body actually needs energy in order to menstruate, and if you are expelling too much energy in the gym, then it can affect menstruation or cause you to skip your period altogether.
#3. Weight Changes
Although irregular periods are most commonly associated with weight loss, it’s important to know that weight gain can also affect your menstrual cycle. Changes in your weight can have an effect on the hormone levels in your body.
These are just a few of the many things that can cause irregular periods. Stay tuned for our next blog to learn more.
