No one likes to get a yeast infection. They can make you itchy, sore, and downright uncomfortable, and unfortunately they are quite common. As many as seventy five percent of women say that they have had one, and more than half of that number say that they have had two or more yeast infections. No one wants to have to deal with a yeast infection, and luckily there are steps that you can take to avoid getting them! The following is a list from our OBGYN in Bradenton of three easy ways to prevent yeast infections:

  1. Wear cotton- Silk and other fabrics may feel nice and look pretty, but they won’t breathe very well. Yeast thrives in damp environments, so you want to make sure that you wear underwear that breathes, like cotton.
  2. Change right away after a workout- When you are exhausted after a strenuous workout, it can be tempting to lounge on the couch for a while before changing, but the longer you leave your sweat-damped underwear on, the more likely it is that you will get a yeast infection. So be sure to change right away! Keep in mind that this rule also applies to your swimsuit.
  3. Don’t constantly wear skinny jeans- Even if they make your legs look long and slender, and they make your butt look great, skinny jeans and other tight fitting pants don’t leave much room to breathe. Keep things airy and cool by switching out your skinny jeans for a nice skirt or loose fitting slacks every once in a while.
