Contrary to popular belief, getting pregnant is not something that’s easy for every couple. The fact of the matter is that getting pregnant is a lot more difficult than most people realize, and it only gets more difficult as you age. If you’ve been struggling to get pregnant, it’s important that you stay in the right mindset and follow the dos and don’ts of fertility. Check out our last blog to learn about the first few dos and don’ts of fertility, and keep reading to learn more.
Do talk to your partner about how you feel.
Both men and women can struggle with infertility, and it leaves both men and women feeling flawed and inadequate. These feelings, as well as infertility as a whole, will put major strain on even the strongest relationships, which is probably why infertile couples are three times more likely to get divorced than fertile couples. Whether you or your partner is having difficulties with fertility, it’s important to remember that you’re not going through it alone, and it’s healthy to get all of those emotions boiling up inside of you out by talking them through with your partner. And, if you’re having trouble talking with your spouse, consider turning to a professional.
Don’t cast the blame on yourself.
Lots of people are under the misconception that getting pregnant is the easiest thing in the world, but the reality is that more couples struggle with infertility than you might think. In fact, one in eight couples struggles with infertility. While there are some lifestyle changes that can affect fertility, it’s largely out of your control, and it will only make matters worse if you beat yourself up over it.
Do get the support you need.
Did you know that the stress levels in infertile women are comparable to the stress levels in women who suffer from heart disease, AIDS and cancer? There’s no doubt about it, fertility problems can be incredibly stressful, but you should know that all of that stress isn’t going to help you get pregnant; in fact, it could make it even more difficult. So make sure that you have a strong support system of friends and family you can turn to when the stress starts getting to you.
Don’t give up.
Many couples who struggle with infertility do end up with happy endings, and it’s important to know that you have a plethora of options in this day and age. From fertility treatments, like IVF (In Vitro Fertilization), to surrogacy and adoption, there are now more options than ever before for couples who want a baby but struggle with infertility. If having a baby is all you’ve ever wanted, don’t give up hope!
