The first trimester of pregnancy can be incredibly scary. 

Regardless of whether or not your baby was planned, or if the baby is your first or your fourth, the firs trimester of pregnancy can be scary. During the first trimester, your baby’s major organs are starting to form and function, which makes it a very important time for development. The first trimester is an important one, and that’s why our certified midwife in Sarasota has come up with these tips for what to do in your first trimester:

#1. Pick a doctor. 

As soon as you think you might be pregnant, your first step should be to visit your doctor. If you don’t already have an OGYN, it’s a great time to pick one! Your doctor is there to make sure that you and your baby are both healthy throughout your pregnancy.

#2. Adjust your diet. 

It’s important to focus on eating a healthy diet so that your baby can get the nutrients he or she needs to develop. Try to include high-protein foods, such as eggs, fish and meat, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, including dark leafy greens, like spinach and kale, as well as dairy. It’s also important to drink plenty of water.

#3. Make any necessary lifestyle changes. 

If you smoke or drink alcohol, now is the time to stop. Studies have shown that alcohol and tobacco can have serious consequences for your baby’s development. Additionally, it’s also important to limit your caffeine intake.
