Many things can affect your ability to get pregnant, and some of them may even surprise you!

Fertility is a complicated thing. Some women are able to get pregnant right away without difficulties, while others may not be able to conceive at all. The truth is that there are many things that can affect your fertility, and some of them are pretty surprising. Here are a few of the many things that can affect your fertility.

#1. Being Overweight

Being overweight or obese can lead to hormonal imbalances that make it difficult to get pregnant. However, excess weight isn’t only a problem for women who are trying to get pregnant, it can be a problem for their partners too. One study conducted by the National Institutes of Health found that men who are overweight are 20 percent more likely to deal with infertility.

#2. Exercising Too Much

Believe it or not, there is such a thing as too much exercise, especially when you are trying to get pregnant. If you exercise vigorously more than five hours per week, you can hinder your ability to conceive.

#3. Artificial Light

Many people are aware that artificial light can make it more difficult to get to sleep at night, but did you know that it can also affect your fertility? Melatonin, the same hormone that helps you get to sleep at night, also protects your eggs from oxidative stress and free-radical damage. Unfortunately, artificial light affects the production of melatonin.
