Morning sickness could strike at any time, so it’s important to be prepared!
Just because you are pregnant, it doesn’t mean that you should have to be sick all the time! Although morning sickness is an unavoidable part of pregnancy, you’ll be glad to know that there are many things you can do to ease your symptoms. The following is a list from our certified midwife in Sarasota of a few tips to help you cope with morning sickness:
#1. Eat small meals throughout the day.
If you have an empty stomach, it will only make your morning sickness worse. When your stomach is empty, the acids have nowhere to go but your stomach lining. Since it’s important to keep some amount of food in your stomach at all times, the best strategy is to eat small meals throughout the day.
#2. Avoid certain smells and foods that can trigger your nausea.
For many women, there are certain smells and foods that trigger nausea more than others, so it’s important to pinpoint the things that make you nauseous. Whether it is your perfume or your favorite beef stew recipe, you should avoid the things that are making your nauseous as much as possible.
#3. Make sure that you are properly hydrated.
When your stomach is queasy, the last thing that you want to do is force yourself to drink your daily water requirements, but it is important to know that dehydration actually makes nausea worse. So, make sure that you drink the proper amount of water every day!
